When
you subscribe to an Office 365 package where SharePoint
is included, some SharePoint sites are already created.
One of them is the Search Center site collection, and when
you create new site collections these are automatically
connected to the same Search Center. When you search by
the search vertical Everything, you will be directed to
the Search Center.
You can also create new Search Centers, either directly
in the SharePoint admin center or from a site collection.
In the demos below Peter Kalmstrom, CEO and Systems Designer
of kalmstrom.com Business Solutions, explains how to create
a new Search Center for a site collection and how to make
it replace the default Search Center in searches within
that site collection.
Create a Seach Center subsite in a SharePoint site collection
Before you can create a new Search Center you have to enable
Publishing for the site collection:
Open the Site settings and click on 'Site collection
features' in the Site Collection Administration group.
Scroll down to the SharePoint Server Infrastructure
Publishing feature and activate it.
Now you can create the new Search Center:
Open the Site Contents.
Click on 'new subsite'.
Under the Enterprise tab, select the template Enterprise
Search Center.
Define the other settings for the new site and click
OK.
To see the new Seach Center in the top navigation/global
navigation, you have to show subsites in the navigation:
Click on the Navigation link under the Look and
Feel group in the site settings.
Check the box for 'Show subsites'. Click OK.
Replace the default Seach Center with your own
Peter replaces the default Search Center with a subsite
in a site collection, but the principle is the same if you
have created a new Search Center site collection in the
SharePoint admin center and want to use it for a site collection.
Right click on the link to the new Search Center
and Copy the shortcut.
Go into Site settings and click on the Search Settings
link in the Search group.
Paste the URL you copied in the field 'Search Center
URL' and remove the part after the last /.
Uncheck the box for 'Use the same results page settings
as my parent'. Click OK.
