When
you create a new site collection or classic subsite, the
home page will be a wiki page. Here you can add text or
links or insert images, videos etc. directly into the page
or insert various kinds of web parts and customize them.
The wiki pages are coded in HTML, but Microsoft has also
made it easy to customize them without using code. Content
can be added with tools in the SharePoint ribbon, and if
you add web parts you can edit them in a right pane. It
is also easy to regret changes.
In the demo below, Peter Kalmström, CEO and Systems
Designer of kalmstrom.com Business Solutions, focuses on
page customization with the SharePoint ribbon tools. He
only shows how to reach the HTML code.
If you want to use HTML code, you should be aware that there
are some restrictions in the use of CSS and JavaScript.
We recommend the
Content Editor web part.
This is what Peter shows in the demo:
How to open a page in edit mode.
How to check out a page while editing so that no
one else can edit the same page.
How to Remove a web part.
How to enter and format text in a web part.
How to use Ctrl +Z and Ctrl + Y for undo and redo.
