Schedule Running of Recurring Tasks Script
An Excel tutorial by Peter Kalmström
In
the previous article,
we described how a script could run through an Excel table
with task templates and create new instances of today's
task in a separate table. The script was run with a button,
but in this case it is more convenient to let the script
run automatically each morning.
In demo below, Peter Kalmström shows how to create a flow
that schedules the running of the Recurring Tasks script.
This can of course be done in the Power Automate site, but
it is easier to create the flow from inside the Excel workbook
that has the tables and the script. You only need to make
sure that the workbook is saved in SharePoint Online or
OneDrive, so that it can connect to Power Automate.
The flow you create from Excel uses the Excel Online (Business)
connector to give the flow access to the Excel workbook.
This connector has two actions that call Office Scripts:
- "Run script" is used when the script is stored in
OneDrive.
- "Run script from SharePoint library" is used when
the script is stored in SharePoint.
The correct action is selected automatically when you create
the flow from the Excel workbook.
You can see and edit the flow in the Power Automate site >My
flows.
As you see, the flow is straight-forward, just as the process
to create it from within Excel.
