Navigation with the SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure

A SharePoint Online tutorial by Peter Kalmström

SharePoint iconIn the previous demo Peter Kalmström, CEO and Systems Designer of kalmstrom.com Business Solutions, explained how to activate the SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure for a site collection and showed some navigation changes.

In this demo Peter will continue showing how the SharePoint navigation is changed when you have enabled the Publishing Infrastructure, and show some additional features.

Navigation changes when the SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure is enabled for a site collection

  • In the Site Settings, the links to the Quick Launch and the Top link bar are replaced with a Navigation link.
  • You have to enable 'Show subsites' to display links to subsites. Even if you select 'Use the top link bar from the parent site' when you create a new subsite, the link is not shown until you enable 'Show subsites'.
  • You can set links to open in a new window.
  • You can create link headings more easily than without the Publishing Infrastructure.
