Enhance SharePoint list that contains imported Excel
data
A SharePoint Online tutorial by Peter Kalmström
In
the previous demo Peter Kalmström, CEO and Systems Designer
of kalmstrom.com Business Solutions, showed
how to export an Excel table to a SharePoint list using
the Export to SharePoint button in Excel.
Unfortunately the SharePoint list that is created in the
process does not take advantage of all SharePoint features.
You can see more about the problems in next article, but
in the demo below Peter gives some tips on how to make the
new list better adapted to SharePoint:
Enable versioning, so that you can see different
versions of the list. This possibility is one of the
major benefits with having the data in SharePoint instead
of in Excel.
Change the default view from Datasheet to Standard.
Add an Edit button to the Standard view.
Hide columns that don't need to be displayed,
to get a cleaner view.
Create
more views to show the data from different aspects.
Add the list to the Quick Launch.
What can not be easily fixed is that the SharePoint
list that Excel creates will not have a possibility to switch
to the modern interface. To get the modern experience and
all the benefits it provides, you need to use
the Access method.
